Using Reference Documents in Interviews

Reference documents are an important part of creating effective AI interviewers. They provide your interviewer with specific knowledge about products, services, or concepts that should be referenced during particular stages of an interview.

How Reference Documents Work

When you attach a document to an interview stage:

  1. The interviewer gains access to the content of that document for reference
  2. The information is used only during the specific stage it's attached to
  3. The interviewer can incorporate this knowledge into questions and responses
  4. Only the first 3 pages of any document are accessible to the interviewer

Adding Reference Documents to Interview Stages

To add a reference document to an interview stage:

  1. Navigate to the interviewer configuration
  2. Find the "Reference Document" section within the stage you want to enhance
  3. Click "Add Document" to open the knowledge selection dialog
  4. Browse and select the appropriate document from your knowledge library
  5. Click "Apply Document" to attach it to the stage

Managing Reference Documents

For each stage, you can:

  • View Document: Open the document to review its contents
  • Change Document: Replace the current document with a different one
  • Remove Document: Delete the reference, removing the knowledge from that stage

Best Practices for Reference Documents

For optimal results with reference documents:

  • Keep documents focused: Each document should cover a specific topic relevant to the stage
  • Use concise content: Remember only the first 3 pages are used
  • Organize by stage: Plan your document strategy based on interview flow
  • Maintain clarity: Use clear formatting and structure in your documents
  • Consider splitting large documents: If you have more than 3 pages of important content, split it across multiple stages

Limitations to Be Aware Of

  • Only one reference document can be attached to each stage
  • Only the first 3 pages of content are used (regardless of document length)
  • The document is only available to the interviewer during its specific stage
  • Very complex formatting may be simplified when processed

By strategically using reference documents across your interview stages, you can create a more informed, focused, and effective interview experience that yields better insights from your participants.
