Creating Custom Interviewer Templates

While library templates are useful, creating your own custom templates gives you full control over the AI interviewer's behavior, focus, and personality.

When to Create a Custom Template?

  • You have a very specific interview goal not covered by library templates.
  • You want to define a unique personality or conversational style for the AI.
  • You need to give the AI specific background information or instructions in its system prompt.
  • You want to configure advanced features like function calling (if applicable).

Steps to Create a Template

  1. Navigate to Templates: Find the Interviewer Templates section. This might be accessible from the main navigation, within a specific Project, or in your organization's settings.

  2. Initiate Creation: Look for a button like "Create Template", "New Template", or similar.

  3. Enter Basic Details:

    • Template Name: (Required) Choose a clear, descriptive name (e.g., Detailed Feature Feedback Template, Job Screening - Level 1 Template).
    • Description: (Optional but recommended) Explain the purpose and intended use of this template.
    • Scope (Optional): You might be able to choose if this template is specific to the current Project or available globally across your organization.
  4. Define the Focus/Goal:

    • There will likely be a field often called "Focus" or "Goal".
    • Clearly state the primary objective of interviews conducted using this template. This is crucial information for the AI.
    • Example Focus: "Gather detailed feedback on the usability and design of the new checkout page, focusing on pain points and suggestions for improvement."
  5. Configure Core Instructions (System Prompt):

    • Look for a text area labeled "System Prompt", "Core Instructions", "AI Instructions", or similar.
    • This is where you provide the main guidance to the AI model.
    • Include:
      • Role: Define the AI's persona (e.g., "You are a friendly user researcher", "You are a helpful support agent").
      • Task: Reiterate the main goal (similar to the Focus).
      • Behavior/Tone: Specify how it should interact (e.g., "Be conversational and empathetic", "Be concise and direct").
      • Constraints: Any specific things the AI should or shouldn't do (e.g., "Do not ask about pricing", "Stick to the topic of the checkout page").
      • (Advanced) Function Instructions: If using function calling, explain how and when to use the available functions.
  6. Configure Advanced Settings (Optional):

    • Depending on the platform, you might find options for:
      • Function Calling: Enabling specific tools for data extraction.
      • LLM Settings: Choosing the underlying language model or adjusting parameters like temperature (creativity).
  7. Save the Template: Click "Save" or "Create Template".
